Wales suffer injury blow
28 February 2004, 7:44 pm
Wales have been dealt an injury blow ahead of next Sunday's RBS 6 Nations Championship encounter with France at the Millennium Stadium.
The Welsh camp are in danger of losing tighthead prop Adam Jones after he injured his left ankle in the Neath-Swansea Ospreys 18-15 Celtic League win against Munster in Cork.

Jones may have damaged ligaments and he arrived back from Ireland on crutches.

Adam is definitely a doubt for the weekend, confirmed Ospreys assistant coach Sean Holley.

Its a big blow for him what with France coming, added Holley.

He limped off just 10 minutes into the game. He went off to hospital in Cork for an x-ray, but nothing has been broken.

I expect he will now go and see the Wales physio Mark Davies to see what the extent of the problem is.

But it is unlikely he will recover in time to win what would have been his 10th cap against France.

Wales coach Steve Hansen was already expected to reshuffle his pack after the defeat to Ireland at Lansdowne Road.

Definitely set for a return was skipper Colin Charvis who missed the trip to Dublin with a dislocated index finger.

Jones has been substituted for Gethin Jenkins on his last four appearances after just 30 minutes but Hansen has pinpointed Jones' fitness levels as the reason for his early exits from the field.

It is now likely that Jenkins will step up for his first start in a Wales jersey since the World Cup clash against Tonga, although Hansen could look outside the squad and recruit someone like prop John Davies, who is having an excellent season with Llanelli Scarlets.
