England seal Calcutta Cup win
21 February 2004, 7:32 pm
England recorded their fourth successive Calcutta Cup victory at Murrayfield to remain firmly on course for the RBS 6 Nations title.
The 35-13 win over Scotland came after the world champions never looked back from their 20-6 interval lead, although Scotland showed a vast improvement from last weeks defeat at Wales.

Ben Cohen, Iain Balshaw, RBS Man of the Match Josh Lewsey and Danny Grewcock scored Englands tries.

Fly-half Paul Grayson booted 15 points as he once again proved an admirable deputy for injured World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson.

It was Englands highest-ever points tally at Murrayfield, surpassing the 34 they clocked up in 1996.

Scotland had the consolation of notching the first try against England in this seasons tournament.

Simon Danielli prospered from Balshaws defensive blunder for the first Scotland try against England since Duncan Hodges four years ago.

Scotland captain Chris Paterson kicked his side into an early lead, but once Cohen prospered from a fumble by full-back Ben Hinshelwood on 12 minutes, there was only one result.

Balshaw claimed a second touchdown before the break, and it was damage limitation for Scotland after the interval.

Lewseys score, after he charged down Patersons attempted defensive clearance, put further daylight between the teams - and then it was a question of how many points England would score.

Daniellis opportunist effort bucked the trend; yet normal service was resumed when Bath captain Grewcock powered over from 15 metres out, and Graysons conversion made it 35-13.

It was Englands 24th victory in their last 25 Tests and their second successive win during this seasons championship.
