Laporte critical despite win
21 February 2004, 6:24 pm
France coach Bernard Laporte saw his side record their second consecutive victory in the 2004 RBS 6 Nations but was far from happy after their 25-0 win over Italy.
The French, although dominating the clash with the Azzurri, could not do enough to please their exacting coach.

"Our touchline was good today but we obviously lacked consistency in converting our opportunities, he said.

"Although we dominated the tie and literally kept the ball for one hour and ten minutes we lacked success up front, three metres from the line and even beyond the line.

The French boss was also angered by Christophe Dominicis second-half goal area mistake.

Dominici dropped the ball behind the posts after seemingly done enough to score.

This is a gesture we cannot accept, Laporte added.

Of course we are not going to ban the player but this was an anti-game action and by doing that he lacked respect towards the whole team.

France face Wales and Scotland next before returning to the Stade de France on March 27 to face holders England.

This could provide Les Blues with the opportunity for revenge after their 2003 World Cup semi-final reverse.

But Laporte has urged his side to take the matches one at a time and claimed their March 6 clash in Cardiff could prove pivotal.

Wales have a young and ambitious side, this will be a capital clash for us, the third of the tournament, he said.

And if we want to win the 6 Nations this year, we must win that match.
