Jamie Heaslip
Jamie Heaslip in action for Ireland in the RBS 6 Nations

Heaslip performances not affected by external criticism

Ireland captain Jamie Heaslip admits he has taken Ireland's back-to-back defeats in the RBS 6 Nations personally, but he's called for his side to produce the accuracy needed to see off France.
A combination of injuries and unavailability has not helped Kidney’s cause, with Ireland stumbling to back-to-back defeats to England and Scotland since opening their campaign in impressive style with a win against Wales at the Millennium Stadium.

Heaslip, who previous to these Championships starting was regarded as a Lions skipper in-waiting, has also not escaped the flack as Ireland’s form has stumbled.

But the Leinster back-row forward insists his confidence, form and outlook has not been altered by Ireland’s faltering RBS 6 Nations charge.

“In 2008 I stopped listening to or reading the rugby side of sport and I can't wait to start again when I finish rugby. But when I'm playing I don't pay attention to it," he said.

"When you come off the field as a player you analyse your own game, but as a captain you feel more responsible for the team.

"I never like to lose, but you do take the defeats a lot more personally when you're captain.

"Injuries don't help, but we can't blame injuries for the Scotland game. We had three really good try-scoring opportunities that we just didn't execute on.

"Despite all our mistakes against England, we still brought it back to 6-6 only to gift them two easy penalties to win the game. I can't blame that on injuries.

"It's been more about our accuracy and that's what we need this weekend."
