Second half scores from Jonathan Davies and Alex Cuthbert helped Wales to a 26-9 victory over Italy, but it was the neutralisation of the Italian forwards that laid the foundations for the win with Hibbard very much to the fore.

And the ex-Swansea star believes the entire front eight should take the credit for helping Wales to back-to-back wins after an eight game winless run.

“It’s a fully connected eight, really, I know the props in the front row get praised after the game but it is all a collective effort,” said Hibbard. “The eight have to perform in the scrum and work in a unit together which is what we are doing at the moment.

“You don’t beat a team like France if you’re not that good, and I thought we took one of their biggest strengths away from them, which let us dominate the game.”

Despite his confidence Hibbard is well aware of the threat posed by Scotland, however, who have also recorded back-to-back victories after their opening day loss to England at Twickenham.

And with ex-Wales coach Scott Johnson in charge, Hibbard knows the Scots will have a thorough knowledge of every player in the Welsh camp.

“They are definitely confident – everything has changed up there and I think they are playing more positively, and I think they like to play the game more and I think it is going to be a tough ask,” said Hibbard.

“Their set piece is going very well at scrums and lineouts, and when they are defending scrums and lineouts, so it’s going to be a tough ask for our pack.

“He (Scott Johnson) coaches one way, there’s a different game plan here. He knows all our strengths and I bet he is expecting a battle.”
