Wilson hails Wales Under-20s scrum
28 February 2013, 10:30 am

Wales Under-20s head coach Danny Wilson believes his side's scrum is among their most potent weapons as they go in search of the RBS 6 Nations Grand Slam.
Wilson’s side have not finished in the top two since the inaugural Under-20s tournament in 2008, but their 25-10 victory in Italy last time out, in treacherous conditions, was a third in a row.

That sees Wilson’s side top of the pile with two-time defending champions England back in second place, having crashed to defeat in Ireland in their second match.

Wilson will take his side to Scotland next weekend, looking to take a major step closer to the Grand Slam, but they will face a side resurgent and on the back of victories over Italy and Ireland.

And while Wilson admits his side will be in for a tough match, he has confidence that his side’s ability at the set-piece will always make them a formidable opponent.

“We had a game plan against Italy which revolved around territory and the scrum, which gave us a good platform to kick the ball down there,” said Wilson.

“As basic as that sounds it meant that we could take advantage of their mistakes.

“I’m pleased with the scrum and it’s definitely an area we want to keep on top of it because it’s a points machine and in matches like the one against Italy it proves the difference.

“Hopefully now we can go to Scotland and get the win and then see what happens.”
