Castrogiovanni admits scrum was a problem for Italy

Italy captain Martin Castrogiovanni admitted his side struggled to compete with Wales in the scrum during their 26-9 RBS 6 Nations defeat at the Stadio Flaminio.
The Leicester prop was standing in for regular skipper Sergio Parisse but saw his side give away a number of penalties at the set-piece, three of which were converted by Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny.

And the 31-year-old’s difficult day was made worse by a ten-minute spell in the sin-bin during the second half during which Alex Cuthbert crossed for the second Welsh try of the afternoon to rubber-stamp Wales' victory.

"We conceded nine points from scrums, which is my problem as well as the team's,” said Castrogiovanni after the game.

“I need to work on that. The referee is always right. If we had done what we were told and also managed our kicking game better, maybe the referee wouldn't have mattered so much.

“There are no excuses. You need to be perfect in all aspects but we weren’t.

“I was very honoured to be made captain, but I don't like losing. I hate losing even when I am playing Playstation.

”We didn't really handle some areas very well. There are ups and down in life, and this was one of the downs.”
