No negatives for Warburton says Wales forwards coach McBryde

Wales forwards coach Robin McBryde believes there are only positives for Sam Warburton to take out of failing to return as captain for their RBS 6 Nations clash with Italy.
The 24-year-old led Wales out in their first clash of the campaign against Ireland but they were on the end of a 30-22 defeat in Cardiff for his seventh successive loss as skipper.

Warburton then missed the 16-6 win over France in Paris that ended a run of eight straight defeats for Wales with a shoulder injury as back-row Ryan Jones stepped in as skipper.

Wales have since opted to stick with the same XV that beat Les Bleus for the trip to Rome with Jones once again leading the nation out against the Italians at the Stadio Olimpico.

Justin Tipuric’s performance against France is also denying Warburton a start however McBryde is adamant the situation can be used to the benefit of the Cardiff back-row.

“It will be interesting to see how Sam reacts on the field,” said McBryde. “You can look at it as a positive.

“When you are away from the coalface you are able to weigh up everything and put things in the right boxes.

“I am sure Sam is able to do that. You let somebody else take the responsibility and the burden.

“You can look at your own game in a bit more detail; think about where you are going wrong and what you need to improve on. Then, it is a matter of executing that.

“I’m sure that Sam will benefit from it and will come back a stronger and a better player.”
