Rory Best believes Tom Court can make an impact for Ireland against Scotland

Best backs Court to step up for Ireland

Rory Best has backed Ulster teammate Tom Court to make a seamless transition to the Ireland front row if called upon by coach Declan Kidney.
Kidney has a selection headache with Cian Healy facing a ban, with Court and Munster’s David Kilcoyne vying for a place against Scotland on February 24.

Ireland, who lost their second RBS 6 Nations game against England 12-6, will be looking for a response at Murrayfield and although Best has been impressed by Kilcoyne it’s Court who he’s hoping gets the nod.

“I’ve been watching David this season and the Munster scrum has been going well,” said Best.

“But Tom has been going very well. This is his seventh season with Ulster and he never picked up a man of the match until suddenly he picked up two in about four weeks.

“That says a lot about where he’s going. Probably by his own admission he had a shaky enough start but since we got our Ulster scrum sorted, he’s been marvellous.

“Tom is not carrying as much as Cian and Dave but when you play with him and see the tight work he’s doing in the rucks and the work around those bits, he’s been the top man.

“And he’s playing as well as he has for a few years.”
