D’Arcy has since been diagnosed with having a stress injury to a bone in his foot, ruling him out of the games against Scotland, France and Italy.
The 33-year-old is not the only Irish back on the sidelines with Simon Zebo’s foot injury also ruling him out of the rest of the tournament, while Jonathan Sexton will miss the Scotland game at least with a hamstring injury.
Lock Mike McCarthy is also out of the game at Murrayfield with a knee ligament injury while prop Cian Healy’s suspension means coach Declan Kidney will need to make at least five changes to the side defeated by England.
“Following a scan it was confirmed that D’Arcy has a stress injury to a bone in his foot,” the IRFU said in a statement.
“The injury will require immobilisation in a boot for at least four weeks, with a projected return to play of six weeks, pending further tests and specialist review.”
