Sergio Parisse looks dejected after Italy's loss to Scotland at Murrayfield

Parisse welcomes time to reflect

Italy captain Sergio Parisse believes an extra week off will help the Azzurri bounce back to RBS 6 Nations duty with all guns blazing when they welcome Wales to Rome next Saturday.
Parisse and co arrived in Edinburgh on Saturday buoyant following their victory over France six days previous, but they were put to the sword by Scotland, who racked up four tries in a 34-10 win.

That served to knock the wind out of Italy’s sails somewhat with Alessandro Zanni’s late consolation try and Luciano Orquera’s penalty all they had to show for their efforts.

Parisse was quick to dismiss suggestions that his side underestimated Scotland however, claiming the rest week will allow Italy to learn from their mistakes at Murrayfield.

“If we were playing Wales next week it would be difficult,” Parisse, who has 93 caps to his name, told Wales Online.

“But we have a week where we don’t play and we have time to understand why we lost.

“We will come back to get it right for the game in Rome against Wales.

“The Six Nations is long and we have an extra week now to prepare for the game against Wales.

“If you think we underestimated Scotland, maybe you don’t know our team very well.

“We were not arrogant and we did not underestimate Scotland.

“I think that we want to play open rugby and maybe we played too much open rugby.”
