Match Preview for Wales vs Scotland
12 February 2004, 3:38 pm
Centre Iestyn Harris believes Wales could emerge as RBS 6 Nations title contenders this season - 12 months after they collected the wooden spoon.
The Welsh suffered a whitewash last year but, after their heroics in Australia, have been tipped by England's World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson to spring a surprise this time.

Wales open their campaign against Scotland in Cardiff on Saturday buoyed by their displays against New Zealand and England last October even though both ended in defeat.

We are in a situation now that we are playing some good rugby but we have to concentrate on our own game, said Harris.

If that makes us contenders at the end then it would be fantastic. But we have to forget about everyone else and just think about Scotland and see where that takes us.

Scotland coach Matt Williams has turned to his young guns for their opening match of the RBS 6 Nations.

The uncapped trio of Allister Hogg, Tom Philip and Chris Cusiter will all make their international debuts in the red-hot atmosphere of the Millennium Stadium.

And Hogg admitted: I didnt think I was going to get picked. Although people say things you dont believe everything you hear so I am over the moon to be picked.

I am looking forward to the challenge and hopefully I can take the opportunity. I am really looking forward to it.
