Llewellyn relishing RBS 6 Nations
10 February 2004, 3:27 pm
Veteran lock Gareth Llewellyn finds himself in the strange position of figuring in both Wales' RBS 6 Nations squad and the Neath-Swansea Ospreys' transfer list.
And ahead of his country's clash with Scotland, he is just happy he has a rugby outlet to save him dwelling on his predicament at regional level.

"The Six Nations is a pleasant distraction, to be honest, and its nice to meet up with the squad, said the veteran of 83 caps.

The Ospreys have decided they want me to go on to the transfer list and seek alternative employment next season. But I dont want to go into the detail of it. Thats their decision."

Llewellyn has more pressing concerns - namely Scotland in Cardiff this weekend.

Its just important that I have a responsibility to the boys in the Welsh squad to be switched on and focus on the job in hand and what is going on here.

I still want to play rugby and I still feel Ive got two years left in me.

Llewellyn, who found himself surplus to requirements at The Gnoll along with fellow Wales international Gavin Thomas, hopes his country can come up with even better performances than the ones they produced in the World Cup.

What we have got to learn to deal with as players is that with the performances in the World Cup come a higher expectation, he said.

It brings a different type of pressure. As much as the Welsh public probably enjoyed the last two games of the World Cup, theyll only put up with the performances for so long.

"Theyll expect wins - and no doubt they will expect one on Saturday."
