Kidney demands more after Fiji rout

Ireland coach Declan Kidney claims his side's return to winning ways against Fiji shouldn't be taken for granted.
The 2009 RBS 6 Nations Grand Slam champions saw off the Pacific Islanders comfortably, 53-0, but Kidney insists a lacklustre start to the second half leaves them with things to work on ahead of next Saturday’s clash against Argentina.

It was by no means all doom and gloom though, Ulster wing Craig Gilroy notched a hat-trick while Fergus McFadden went over twice.

But following the 16-12 defeat at the hands of South Africa last weekend, Kidney wanted to see more urgency from his side after the interval.

“Overall, the first half went OK,” he said. “But the third quarter definitely died a lot and we’ll have to take a good look at that because that was the section last week [against South Africa] that cost us.

“We finished strongly but the thing that pleased me most was the defence. Even though we were points ahead we defended stoically.

“There were a lot of young men out there having their first go and I think it would be wrong to single any one player out.

“There was a fair bit of finishing from some of the backs but there was good work done by the forwards too.”
