Robinson: We showed the All Blacks too much respect

Scotland head coach Andy Robinson admitted his side had shown the All Blacks a little too much respect in Sunday's 51-22 defeat at Murrayfield.
A below-strength All Blacks still had too much for Scotland, who finished bottom of the pile in the RBS 6 Nations this year, running in six tries in total.

Robinson’s men certainly did not disgrace themselves against the World Champions however, running in three tries of their own through the livewire Tim Visser, who crossed twice, and Geoff Cross.

Julian Savea ran in two tries for Steve Hansen’s men, Israel Dagg, Corey Jane, Andrew Hore and Ben Smith also on the scoresheet but it was the peerless Dan Carter who impressed Robinson most.

“If you sit off New Zealand they're a very good attacking team and they will take you apart,” he said.

“That was a lesson that we knew before going into this game, that we had to get off the line, that we had to put them under pressure. We did in parts, but you've got to do that consistently for the whole 80 minutes.

“I thought we just dropped off a little bit on our line-speed and allowed them to play too comfortably.

“When you give a guy like Dan Carter that time and space he'll pull the strings. He's a fantastic footballer and rugby player.

“We had to put him under pressure. When he does break the line the team normally score from it.”
