Henry underlines Ireland credentials in Ulster victory

By Nate Saunders
Ulster flanker Chris Henry staked his claim for a place in Ireland's autumn international squad as he scored the decisive try in the 19-8 Heineken Cup away victory against Glasgow.
Henry won his second international cap in the 60-0 defeat to the All Blacks in June, but with Sean O’Brien, who featured in four RBS 6 Nations matches earlier this year, injured there is a spot up for grabs in the Irish back row this November.

Ulster held a narrow 6-3 lead at half-time in Glasgow and the match was hanging in the balance until Henry crossed on the hour mark – with fly-half Paddy Jackson’s 14-point haul enough to secure the win.

The victory is the seventh in a row for the Ulstermen, maintaining their unbeaten start in both the league and Europe, leaving head coach Mark Anscombe to praise their temperament in securing a vital away win.

"We showed a lot of character out there, the boys battled their way through tough conditions against a very good team,” he said.

"It's not easy to come here and get a victory as other teams I'm sure will find out.

“You have got to be able to work through things because the game of rugby doesn't always go the way you want it.

"If you don't have that character and attitude to hang in there and battle through the tough times, you won't come out the right end.

“We have done that a few times this year, and shown there is a bit of character there. That's a good benchmark to build a good team from."
