France's out-of-form winger Aurelien Rougerie admits it was "no surprise" that he was left out of Bernard Laporte's squad for the RBS 6 Nations.
Other than those players who are injured or have retired, 23-year-old Rougerie is the only member of last years World Cup squad not to be called up for the RBS 6 Nations.
I was disappointed but not surprised, he told LEquipe. Considering my latest performances with Montferrand (his club) this is logical because I was not good.
It is normal that the best players are selected. In the past that was my case.
Rougerie added that he still hasnt recovered from the disappointment of Frances World Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of eventual winners England.
Les Blues finished fourth after being beaten by New Zealand in the play-off.
I completely missed out, he added.
I came back from Australia depressed because I felt I had not lived up expectations. I tried to find out why and I spoke with Jo Maso and Bernard Laporte, but it was hard to explain.
Since then it is true I have had ups and downs.
France begin their RBS 6 Nations campaign on February 14 against Ireland and Rougerie is focused on playing his way back into contention.
I am motivated to come back with the national side but I have to sort myself out first, he continued.
And it starts with the club where I have to display good rugby.
