Jones opted for minor surgery this summer and is set to miss the start of the Ospreys campaign, however he is expected to make it back in time for a busy November schedule for Warren Gatland’s RBS 6 Nations Grand Slam champions.

The 31-year-old has played nine Tests this year so far and appeared in every game of Wales’ Grand Slam winning campaign, two of them at lock.

He reverted to his preferred role of No. 8 for the summer tour but Wales lost all three matches against Australia, the last by a single point; 20-19 in Sydney.

But Jones should be back up to full speed in time to put himself in the frame for selection in the autumn internationals when revenge can be taken on the Wallabies at the Millennium Stadium.

However Jones’ main priority is his rehab under the guidance of Ospreys head physio Chris Towers.

Towers said: "After undergoing investigation and, bearing in mind where we are in the season, it was agreed that the best course of management was for Ryan to have some minor keyhole surgery.

"The early prediction sees him back available around the six-week mark."
