Tovey set to push on after move

Jason Tovey insists a fresh start at Cardiff Blues can kickstart his international career after admitting he stagnated at Newport Gwent Dragons for too long.
Former Wales Under-20 fly-half Tovey, who featured in the Under-20s RBS 6 Nations in 2009, concedes he was not pushed out of his comfort zone at Rodney Parade after coming through the Dragons academy.

The 23-year-old, who confirmed his move in March, was tipped to make his mark on the international stage after a blistering start to his career but he moves to the Cardiff Arms Park without a senior cap.

He was overlooked for the Welsh side that claimed the RBS 6 Nations and Grand Slam this year but believes he will finally fulfil his potential and force his way into Warren Gatland’s reckoning with a change of scenery this season.

“I went a bit stale at the Dragons,” he told the South Wales Argus. “I wasn’t really pushed out of my comfort zone but this is a fresh start and I have had to come here and work hard.

“I think that I suffered a lack of form but we weren’t playing well as a team either and you could see that with all of the boys’ performances.

“But this is a new era for me and if we can win a lot of games then hopefully it can push me on to international honours.

“I want a consistent season and to produce the performances that I was for the Dragons 18 months ago.”
