Laidlaw - defence won us the game

Fly-half Greig Laidlaw refused to take all the credit for Scotland's triumphant 9-6 victory over Australia despite kicking the match-winning penalty.
The 26-year-old landed his third penalty of the match with the last kick of the game in New South Wales to give Scotland their first win in Australia since 1982.

Victory ended a run of seven consecutive defeats for Andy Robinson’s men – which included the RBS 6 Nations Wooden Spoon – with their summer tour continuing at Fiji and Samoa on June 16 and 23.

And having put the Wallabies to the sword, Edinburgh star Laidlaw insists Scotland have turned a page and put their RBS 6 Nations nightmare behind them.

“One to 15, the guys were absolutely outstanding,” said Laidlaw. “They defended as a team, as a sort of blue wall across the park.

“That’s something we have talked about as a team, and personally I’ve been working hard on it. I like to think it’s been coming through.

“When we look back on the game, the defence has won it for us.

“It was really a kick for the guys in the scrum because before that they were outstanding to force the penalty.

It was probably the toughest kick I have ever had from in front of the posts. I was slightly worried about the weather because it was pretty messy all night.

“But I was delighted when the ball went through the posts at the end.”
