England scrum-half Matt Dawson will attempt to prove his fitness ahead of the RBS 6 Nations championship in the English Premiership clash between Northampton and Rotherham.
Dawson, who has been troubled by a shoulder injury, was among the replacements for the European Cup defeat against Llanelli, but did not get on.
England head coach Sir Clive Woodward will run final checks over his squad before naming the team for the RBS 6 Nations Championship opener against Italy in Rome.
Dawson takes over from Mark Robinson, while England fly-half hopeful Paul Grayson is on the bench.
Grayson is one of the players who could fill in for stand-offf Jonny Wilkinson, Dawsons usual half-back partner who will miss the Italy game through neck and shoulder injuries.
