Tomas sets sights on home play-off game

Montpellier scrum-half Julien Tomas has urged his team to push on and book a home play-off game after they guaranteed a top-six finish with a 21-16 win over Biarritz.
The 27-year-old, who featured for France in both the 2008 and 2011 RBS 6 Nations, played the entire 80 minutes for Montpellier helping create their second try, scored by Geoffrey Doumayrou.

And with a final game of the regular Top 14 season away to leaders Toulouse to come, Tomas is desperate to secure a play-off game at the Stade de la Mosson.

He said: “I got into the changing rooms but I didn’t know if we were definitely in the top six. Apparently we are. It’s a huge satisfaction, because that was our priority at the start of the season. Qualifying before the final round of games feels good.

“The president told us in the changing rooms that he wants a home play-off game. We will be going to Toulouse to try and win. We want to take some points and produce a big performance.

“It would be good to play at home in the play-offs, for our fans, the city and the club.

“Biarritz were very hard to move around, even without [Dimitri] Yachvili and [Imanol] Harinordoquy. They are very competitive and a win against them is always a good one. We will be able to judge where we are next weekend. We’ll be playing the best team in the league and we’ll see what we have got and if we have to go away for the play-offs.”
