Robinson: Scotland can play tough on tour

Scotland head coach Andy Robinson is relishing the challenge which awaits his team in Australasia this summer as the team seeks to bounce back from an RBS 6 Nations Wooden Spoon.

This week the Scottish Rugby Union announced a gruelling Test schedule for June which will see Scotland play matches against Australia, Fiji and Samoa as well as a non-Test match against the New South Wales Waratahs.

The Scots failed to win a match in this year’s Championship which, coupled with losses to Argentina and England during the World Cup, extended their winless run to seven games.

But Robinson says the squad will head Down Under full of confidence citing the impressive performances of the country’s regional teams as evidence that Scottish rugby is going places.

"This will be a tough, full-on tour and I've been pleased with the form of many of the contenders for places within both the Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors teams over the last few weeks," said Robinsonwho will name a 32-man touring party in May.

"We have seen a fantastic victory by Edinburgh over Toulouse in the Heineken Cup quarter-final and Glasgow remain on course for the play-offs in the RaboDirect PRO12, having displayed ruthlessness in their win against Cardiff Blues.”
