Injured Canale misses England clash

Italy's preparations for their RBS 6 Nations opener against world champions England suffered a blow after Gonzalo Canale was ruled out with a thigh injury.

The Benetton Treviso full-back sustained the injury during the weekend Heineken Cup game against Gloucester.

Canale will be out of action for the next two weeks, the Italian Rugby Federation confirmed.

The good news for Azzurri coach John Kirwan is that Benetton Treviso forward Carlo Checchinato will return to training on Wednesday.

Checchinato sustained a slight knee injury during Saturday's game in Gloucester.
