Halsey calls for improvement against France

England Women's Under-20s assistant coach Steve Halsey has vowed to right the wrongs of their thrashing in Paris three weeks ago in a two-match Test series against their French counterparts starting on April 4th.
All of the squad that were present in the 50-0 drubbing have been retained by head coach Amanda Bennett, but the inclusion of RBS Six Nations Grand Slam winner Hannah Gallagher is likely to breathe new life into the 26-woman contingent.

The Saracens flanker will be joined by England Sevens squad members Emily Scott and Leanne Riley, while Waterloo back-rower Ellie Prescott will make her debut at Moulton College.

But Halsey has identified an improvement in performance as the main target on Wednesday, before the two sides lock horns again on April 7th.

“Having played France already last month, the real test for the squad is to see an improvement in performance,” said Halsey.

“Our focus in this game will be to work on the areas of our game that we identified as those where we fell short in Paris. This is a young side and for a lot of the players the game in Paris was their first taste of U20 international rugby.

“This game provides a real opportunity for us as a squad to demonstrate that we are developing individually and collectively.”
