Beattie heading to France to enhance international chances

Scotland No.8 Johnnie Beattie has opted for a move to France and reigning Top 14 runners-up Montpellier in a bid to improve his international chances.
Beattie will leave his hometown side of Glasgow Warriors in the off-season to join up with his new teammates ahead of the 2012/13 campaign.

The 26-year-old has found himself dropped down the pecking order in the international side with the emergence of David Denton in this year’s RBS 6 Nations chiefly to blame.

But the 16-cap man insists his focus remains firmly on the job in hand for the Warriors before he departs for pastures new.

“As ever, I’ll continue to give my all for what I hope will be seven PRO12 matches to ensure we have a successful finish to the season,” he said.

“I’m massively proud to have represented the city I was born in, and from where so many of my family have come going back many years. I’ve made the best friends of my life among the players during a fantastic eight years.

“I will always remember how emotional I felt pulling on a Glasgow jersey for the first time, and that feeling is still very much the same now.

“I’d like to give huge thanks to the Warriors support, who have always been first class with me, through all my ups and downs. The backing we receive at Firhill is tremendous, and I’ve always been made to smile and feel very proud when we’ve gone away from home and seen supporters who have travelled and paid to watch Glasgow play.”
