But 23-year-old blindside flanker Lydiate is the first to admit Warren Gatland’s outfit have enjoyed more than a slice of luck en route to securing their four wins.
After narrowly edging Ireland 23-21 in their opener, Wales hung onto victory against England when David Strettle’s last-gasp try-attempt was denied and Lydiate insists the quality of their play needs to be far superior than it was against Italy last week to capture the coveted trophy.
“We were happy with the result over Italy but the performance wasn’t up to scratch,” said Lydiate.
“There were a lot of errors in the game. It’s something we are looking to put right this week and we will be looking for a more clinical performance.
“We’ve certainly had the rub of the green, where in the past we’ve had decisions maybe go against us.
“We will definitely take it, but hopefully we can make our own luck at the weekend.
“A lot of us have never beaten France before so it’s a massive challenge but one we are really looking forward to.
“We are expecting a tough game, but we are going out there to get a good win and hopefully it will be a massive occasion for us."
