Saint-André has gone with a mix of experience and youth, calling up Julien Pierre and Fulgence Ouedraogo in the forwards, along with Dimitri Yachvili, Alexis Palisson, Florian Fritz and the uncapped Jean-Marcellin Buttin in the backs.
The 20-year-old Buttin is the biggest surprise, replacing his Clermont teammate Julien Malzieu, while the injured Vincent Clerc, Maxime Mermoz, Julien Dupuy and the retiring Lionel Nallet all miss out.
But despite Buttin’s relative inexperience, Saint-André is confident he will cope with the pressure of the in-form Welsh.
He said: “[Buttin] can cover the wing and full-back. We are bringing people in with a lot of potential and exceptional physical qualities. We want quick and powerful players who are capable of repeated efforts over a long period.
“Buttin has all that and as a youngster he came through all the age group teams. He’s been playing exceptionally well both on the wing and at full-back.
“He can play both positions, is powerful and very quick. You have to start at one time, I was a replacement when I was only 19 or 20. We’ve been watching him for a while and he is starting to explode at Clermont.”
