Declan Kidney
Ireland coach Declan Kidney had previously stated Scotland would do well this year
Kidney stands by comments that Scotland would succeed

Coach Declan Kidney insists he stands by his pre-RBS 6 Nations statement that Scotland would prosper in the Championship this year as Ireland welcome them to the Aviva Stadium.
Kidney proclaimed that Andy Robinson’s troops were shaping up perfectly to succeed prior to their opening match against England at Murrayfield however the opposite has happened.

Scotland fell 13-6 to England, ill-discipline then proved costly in the 27-13 defeat to Wales before France came from behind to win 23-17 and inflict on them a third straight loss.

Ireland meanwhile have a loss, a win and a draw against Wales, Italy and France respectively to their names rendering their hopes of winning the RBS 6 Nations very slim indeed.

But ahead of their clash with Scotland, Kidney not only sticks to his early championship assessment, healso draws parallels between the two nations’ campaigns.

“When I was asked at the start of the championship, I said Scotland were in a prime position to go very well,” said Kidney.

“If you look at the thin margins that have affected them – as they have affected us – it is clear they have been right on the money going into every game.

“They have performed well in every match. If it clicks for them it will be an unbelievable challenge for us.

“Sometimes we underwrite the strength of this competition; every game is different and throws up different challenges.

“It is a brilliant opportunity to pull on a green jersey and represent Ireland to the best of our ability, that is how we see every game.

“It will be a full house and a lot of people will have spent a lot of money to be there. It is our job to represent them.”
