Beauxis ready to prove he is more than a kicking option

Lionel Beauxis insists he is more than just a kicking option after being recalled by France for their RBS 6 Nations clash with England.
The Toulouse fly-half takes over from François Trinh-Duc who has not been at his best so far during the tournament, and will make his first start for France in more than two years.

He will form a new set of half-backs with Julien Dupuy, also recalled from the international wilderness, and Beauxis admits their time together at Stade Français will make things easier at the Stade de France on Sunday.

“I’ve gained a lot of confidence and maturity. You need to know how to evolve. I was always told off for not communicating enough. Now I speak more on the pitch,” said Beauxis.

“I even have a rant now and again. It feels good. In any case I’m a lot more mature now and my game has improved a lot.

“I’m nearly 27 and I’ve learned from my mistakes. The nine and ten spots are not easy, especially with a new game plan. It takes a while to adapt but it’s starting to happen. I’ve found bearings, it’s a bit like what I know at Toulouse. I don’t feel too much pressure and I’m not too worried.

“When I was a replacement I was hoping to make a difference off the bench, even if I’d have liked to put at least one of those drop goals over against Ireland.

“Now I’ll have to produce a good performance. I know I have a big hand to play, I want to remain a starter. But that is more difficult.

“Julien Dupuy and I played together at Stade Français and it all went very well. We had a great relationship. The reflexes are coming back, it’s going very quickly.”
