Robson helped himself to two tries while Sam Hill, Charlie Walker, Ben Ransom and Josh Bassett also crossed to secure the win – Henry Slade and Tommy Bell kicked six points each.

England now sit top of the table with a trip to France before a home game with Ireland still to come, and they are now firm favourites to defend their crown before heading to the Junior World Championships, bidding to improve on last year’s finish of second.

Robson is taking things one step at a time however, but he believes there were plenty of signs of encouragement in Italy.

“It was another tough game against a strong Italian team,” said Robson.

“We spoke before the match about the fact that they’d come at us and they did.

“We scored some nice team tries and, as always, it’s great to get the win.”
