Only three players have survived from that side - Adam Jones, Mike Phillips and Alun Wyn Jones - but Gatland has even more confidence in the new generation that sweptWales to within a whisker of the World Cup final.
But while the pressure is mounting after back-to-back victories against Ireland and Scotland, Gatland is confidentWales can harness the strain that accompanies their favourites tags against the defending champions.
"There is definitely not that fear factor [at Twickenham] now," he said. "It is a great challenge for us going to Twickenham as favourites. This young team has got to learn to accept that and deal with those expectations, because in Wales there is nothing in between - it is all or nothing.
"There is only one consequence of being built up and that is you get quickly knocked down. We have got to make sure we keep our feet on the ground.
"A lot of people are talking us up which is going to add toEngland's motivation, and we have got to handle that.
"I have generally got fond memories of Twickenham talking to some Wales players who played over the past 20 years, it was a bit different when they were fully loaded with Johnson, Dallaglio, Back and all the others."
Gatland was forced into a late reshuffle after James Hook withdrew from the squad with chicken pox and has been replaced by record caps holder Stephen Jones.
Elsewhere he makes three changes to the side that beatScotland 27-13 as hooker Ken Owens, lock Alun Wyn Jones and captain Sam Warburton come in.
Stuart Lancaster, the England interim head coach, also shuffles his hand as Ben Morgan, Lee Dickson, Manu Tuilagi and Geoff Parling start with Owen Farrell moving from centre to fly-half.
There are seven players in total who will be making theirinternational debuts at Twickenham and there are just four survivors in the starting XV from the side that beat Wales26-19 in the opening game of the 2011 RBS 6 Nations.
That demonstrates the rebuilding job Lancaster has undertaken since the negative fallout from England's World Cup quarter-final exit and hooker Dylan Hartley admits England are revelling in their underdog status.
"This is a perfect chance for us, a real chance to get the support of the nation right behind us," Hartley said.
"We have a chance to play in front of our own fans, do the shirt justice and get the nation behind us.
"The lads will put everything in. There will be 100% effort and commitment like we showed against Scotland. Hopefully we will play with the composure we had againstItaly, when we came back from nine points down to win, and we want to put more emphasis on our attacking game.
"They are a team in form. We will be underdogs. I don't mind that. People were writing us off against Scotlandsaying we didn't have the experience. You read that as players and think, 'We will prove them wrong'.
"We are quietly driven to do well."
