And that leaves Robinson to pick between Jackson or current incumbent Greig Laidlaw who took over the No.10 jersey after Dan Parks’ abrupt retirement.

Laidlaw scored all of Scotland’s points in their 27-13 defeat to Wales last time out, including their first try in their last five internationals.

But after two defeats from two Robinson might be tempted to ring the changes when they welcome Les Bleus to Murrayfield on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the Scottish backline Max Evans faces a race against time to prove his fitness after the ankle knock he picked up against Wales.

Evans said: “I twisted my ankle quite badly against Wales and my ankle is still quite weak.

“I’m not sure I’ll be able to play but the fact the game is on Sunday gives me a chance.

“I’ve started running again and will take a decision on Wednesday or Thursday.”

Evans’ injury could allow Stuart Hogg, who impressed off the bench against Wales, to make his first start for Scotland at full back with Rory Lamont switching to the wing.

Robinson, whose Scotland side are still yet to win since they beat Georgia in the World Cup back in September, is also sweating on the fitness of a number of his forwards.

Jim Hamilton, Richie Vernon and Scott Lawson are all hoping to shake off various niggles while Glasgow prop Ed Kalman appears to have recovered from the neck pain suffered on debut against Wales.
