Tom Croft insists England are capable of stopping Wales
Croft backs England to rise to Twickenham roar

England flanker Tom Croft is backing Stuart Lancaster's newlook side to put on a memorable performance against Wales at Twickenham next week despite suffering a stuttering start to this year's RBS Six Nations.

Despite winning in Scotland and Italy in the opening rounds of the championship, England have scored just two tries from Charlie Hodgson, both of which were charge downs, leading to criticism Lancaster’s men lacks sufficient attacking capabilities.

In contrast, Wales have looked in exceptional form so far, cutting Scotland apart in Cardiff last weekend, while also nudging a narrow thriller against Ireland on the opening weekend of the championship.

Few are giving England much hope of continuing their 100 per cent start to this year’s Six Nations against Wales – but Croft thinks differently.

The likes of Owen Farrell, Chris Robshaw, Phil Dowson, Ben Morgan, Brad Barritt, Geoff Parling and Lee Dickson have little international experience but Croft is adamant the roar of Twickenham will inspire a stunning performance when it matters most.

“I am really looking forward to the game and obviously playing at Twickenham is massive, especially for those guys currently sitting on two caps,” he said.

“They have been involved in two very tough away games and then to come back to Twickenham in front of a packed crowd is going to be absolutely massive so obviously the boys are looking forward to that.

“Playing at Twickenham is a massive opportunity and I just hope that those new boys don’t get caught in those headlights and the play the game we all know they are capable of playing.

“But I don’t buy into the argument that it is harder to play in front of your home fans and if anything playing at Twickenham gives you that extra five or ten per cent in terms of that excitement you feel even before you play the game.”

Tom Croft is an ambassador for SSE. To check out Tom going head to head against Wales’ second row star Ryan Jones in a series of three video challenges, head to www.sserugby.com  and see who wins!’
