Roberts: Twickenham is our toughest challenge

Jamie Roberts insists the challenge of squaring up to England at Twickenham is still the biggest in world rugby and the Wales centre is desperate to leave with the Triple Crown in his grasp when the two sides meet on February 25th.
Warren Gatland’s side have made an impressive start to this year’s RBS 6 Nations, defeating Ireland and Scotland in their opening two games, but Roberts has his sights firmly set on their next hurdle at Twickenham.

While England have also won their opening two games, the Cardiff Blues back hasn’t been overly impressed with what he has seen from the Red Rose but maintains they cannot be underestimated.

The 25-year-old is still hurting from the 30-17 defeat to England in the 2010 Championship and is eager to put the record straight.

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else as a rugby player than Twickenham going for a Triple Crown,” said Roberts.

“England haven’t lit up games but they’ve won games and Test match rugby is all about winning. Hats off to them – they’ve won two tough rugby games.

“People won’t be jumping for joy about the rugby they are playing, but it really doesn’t matter. You are in this to win big games and they’ve done that.

“For us it’s about us going to Twickenham and imposing our game on them and doing things on our terms.

“Playing England is the ultimate test. The chance of going down there and beating the English on their own patch is up there with some of the biggest challenges and the best feelings in the world if we do it.

“We didn’t manage to do it two years ago but we’ve got a great opportunity to go there and win some silverware. To go and win in Dublin last week was a massive scalp for us and to win at Twickenham would be huge for us.”
