The statistics don’t stop there with the 27-13 defeat to Wales their fourth in succession in all competitions and ninth from the 12 RBS 6 Nations games Andy Robinson has taken charge of.

Scotland’s opening two defeats mean their hopes of a first Championship since 1999 are all but extinguished ahead of their final three fixtures – starting against France at Murrayfield on February 26.

And, with the sin binnings of Nick De Luca and Rory Lamont that helped contribute to the Wales loss still looming large, scrum-half Cusiter has called for discipline and no more mistakes.

“The boys are all gutted – we should have done better against Wales. All the games we have been in recently have been fairly even contests but we have got to start winning,” said Cusiter.

“We know we can beat any team we play against, and we were looking really good for a while, but a lapse in concentration and a couple of mistakes off the back of it and all of a sudden the game is almost out of sight.

“It’s a harsh lesson to learn, but we have got to put together an 80-minute performance. We have got France next up and we will look forward to that and try to cut out these errors.

“France is a huge game for us. After losing two games it becomes absolutely paramount that we win. We believe we can do it if we put together an 80-minute performance, but if we switch off for a bit then unfortunately in international rugby you are punished.”
