Owen Farrell has won many plaudits for his performances in an England shirt this RBS 6 Nations campaign and full-back Ben Foden believes the 20-year-old has given Stuart Lancaster a major selection headache ahead of the clash against Wales.
The centre hadn’t pulled on a senior England shirt until the Six Nations opener with Scotland, but he has hardly shown it as his boot has been influential in victories against the Auld Enemy and Italy.

But ahead of hosting Wales at Twickenham Lancaster may well call on more attacking and experienced reinforcements in fly-half Toby Flood and centre Manu Tuilagi, putting a third Test appearance for Farrell into question.

However full-back Foden believes Farrell has earned his stripes and deserves his chance to try and stop the Wales machine that has scored six tries to England’s two.

“Owen has come straight in and delivered,” he said. “And we haven’t yet seen the best of him. He’ll get better and better with every game he plays.

“It’s amazing to think that 18 months ago he wasn’t really on the scene. He’s one of those guys who sort of grows into it.

“His kicking out of hand is brilliant and his kicking at goal has been superb as well. If it continues he will have a bright and long career in an England shirt.

“Obviously both [Toby and Manu] have earned their spurs. But the guys who have played have been performing pretty well.

“We’ll look forward to a competitive training week at our Pennyhill Park base and then an interesting team selection.”
