Ex-Scotland international Peter Wright tries to take positives from Wales defeat

Scotland Under-20s coach Wright buoyed by late rally

Scotland Under-20s coach Peter Wright believes there are positives to take in defeat after a stirring second-half comeback against Wales - but he called on his players to produce that performance for 80 minutes.
After an RBS 6 Nations curtain-raising thumping by England last time, things were again looking bleak for Wright’s men in Wales – Ospreys flyer Luke Morgan doing the damage with a fine double.

But despite finding themselves trailing 28-3 at one stage, Scotland roared back with wing Jamie Farndale helping himself to two tries, bringing some respectability to a 28-15 scoreline.

And while that riposte is sure to give Wright’s troops heart ahead of the forthcoming home clash with France, Wright is insistent that cameo performances are not enough.

“I think there was a big improvement in the second half, playing the game at a good tempo and with pace,” he said.

“We lost a couple of soft tries in the first half, two tries we shouldn't have but that's international rugby and the boys aren't necessarily used to playing at that pace week in and week out.

"We don’t have the big, physical players like they do all over the park so we have to look to play at a high tempo and play to our strengths and we showed we could hurt them when we played at pace.

“But the positives must last longer in the matches and that's what we'll look to do for the next game.”
