And Robinson admitted that his side needed to be more ruthless in possession to stand any chance of ending their disappointing run.

“We had opportunities to score just before half-time and we didn’t score at those key moments,” said Robinson.

“Just after half-time we missed the restart, Wales took the opportunity then straight from the kick-off we ended up with somebody sin-binned.

“When you are under pressure you’ve got to be able to absorb that pressure but credit to Wales they took their chances in that time and they won the game.

“When we had chances we didn’t take them. We’ve got to be able to deal with that. If you look at the guys who went out and played I think they played very well and they’re hurting and disappointed.”

A consolation of sorts for Robinson was his side’s attacking play late on in match as Greig Laidlaw, making his first start at fly-half for Scotland, and Stuart Hogg both impressed in ending Scotland’s run of four games without an international try.

“Young Stuart (Hogg) making his debut off the bench at full-back had a very good start,” added Robinson.

“He did some very good things as did Greig Laidlaw playing at 10. We’ve got three games to go. We’re looking forward to playing France, to taking on France, and we believe in the way we’re trying to play.

“We put Wales under pressure. Their defence held us out but we have got to keep playing that way.”
