England Under-20s clash with Italy called off

England Under-20s have had their RBS 6 Nations title defence put on hold after their game in Italy was called off.

After beating Scotland 59-3 in their opener Rob Hunter and his side would have been looking for more of the same against Italy Under-20s.

But French referee Cedric Marchat put an end to this, postponing the game in Rovigo due to a frozen pitch, meaning Wales’ visit to the Stoop on February 24 will now be England’s next game.

“It’s massively disappointing for the lads,” Hunter said. “We’ve trained well and prepared well all week so to not play at the end of that is shame, but the pitch has been deemed unplayable and we have to respect that.”
