Despite some of Scotland’s more memorable wins in recent years coming in the wet – most notably the 19-13 defeat of England in 2000 that prevented the Auld Enemy claiming a Grand Slam - Ford is desperate for the match to be played indoors.

Scotland requested the roof remain open two years ago in their 31-24 loss to Wales and it will require both team’s agreement for the game to be played with a retracted roof this time round.

"We've asked for the roof to be closed so that guarantees us a nice dry ball to go out and play the way we want to,” said the 27-year-old.

"We believe we've got the ability there to put pressure on Wales with the way we want to play and we'd prefer it if the roof was closed.

"We have had victories in the worst weather conditions, but I think you would be hard pressed to find a rugby player who enjoys the wet and the cold.

“Andy Robinson spoke about the need for us to perform with controlled chaos last week and you can still create that in dry weather. Chaos comes from your opposition not knowing what you’re going to do.

“A closed roof may add to the atmosphere but I’ve always found the noise created by Welsh fans gives me a lift, it’s brilliant.”
