Wilson backs Wales Under-20s to recover from defeat

Wales Under-20s head coach Danny Wilson is backing his young guns to bounce back from their RBS 6 Nations opening defeat against Ireland on Friday.
Full-back Shane Layden’s first-half try ultimately proved the difference for the Irish hosts, as drop goals from Paddy Jackson and Luke McGrath cancelled out a Welsh penalty from Lewis Williams and a Sam Davies drop goal.

Wales, who have finished third in their last two campaigns, welcome bottom-placed Scotland to Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay on Saturday, and Wilson believes that a backlash could replicate last year’s 33-3 victory.

"There was a lot of effort and endeavour but our execution was poor,” said Wilson.

"These are young players; they're fresh and new together. We know where we are and can only build from here and move forward.

"We made far too many basic errors. We didn't keep the ball for any periods of time to build pressure and we spent almost the entire game defending.

"Quite a few decisions went against us, but we lacked discipline.

“We know what we have to work on and we have to bounce back at home against Scotland.”
