Troncon aims to end away blues
28 March 2003, 6:34 pm
Record-breaking Italy captain Alessandro Troncon believes the Azurri have a real chance to record their first away win in the RBS 6 Nations when they face Scotland at Murrayfield.
The scrum-half will become his country's most capped player in the clash with Scotland and is relishing the prospect of a physical test.

As Italy conclude their fourth Six Nations campaign they boast only two wins in 19 outings, both of those successes coming at Rome's Stadio Flaminio - against Scotland in their inaugural match in 2000 and Wales this year.

Victory at the Scottish rugby citadel would not only be a first but would also ensure that Italy complete their most successful campaign to date with two victories in five matches.

Troncon, who wins his 76th cap to eclipse the record of forward Carlo Checchinato, is under no illusions that the Scots will be easy pushovers.

"It will be a very fiercely-contested match," said Troncon.

"It will be a very phsyically intense match that Italy can win if it is psychologically as well as physically at the races.

"They (Scotland) are good in the line-out and have an aggressive, dynamic pack," added Troncon, who last summer returned to Italy with Treviso after a spell with Montferrand.

"But their players are not at the level of Ireland, England and France."
