Ford not underestimating Scotland Under-20s

New England Under-20 skipper George Ford is warning his teammates against complacency ahead of Friday's RBS 6 Nations opener against Scotland in Firhill.

In the corresponding fixture last year, England crushed their opponents in an eight-try 56-8 victory at Newbury on their way to a Grand Slam.

It was the same story at the IRB Junior World Championships in June when England dispatched Pool C rivals Scotland 39-18 in Treviso.

Leicester Tigers fly-half Ford was instrumental that day, and will be looking for a repeat performance in Glasgow to help England hit the ground running in the defence of their Championship.

"It's a massive honour to be named captain for this game, but the most important thing for us is to work as hard as we can as a team for 80 minutes against a strong Scotland side,” said the IRB Junior Player of the Year.

“We know that they're a threat so we'll need to be on our game and stick to our plan."

Head Coach Rob Hunter has retained eight of last season’s U20s in the starting line up including Matt Kvesic, Elliot Daly and Dan Robson, complemented by eight of John Fletcher’s former-U18s making the match day squad.
Hunter said: "We're excited about getting into the Six Nations, it’s a new side and we are all looking forward to seeing them play. We have a good blend of experience and fresh faces.
“Competition for places is high. We are pleased with how the team has come together, we have had a fantastic week’s preparation in Stirling"
