Italy coach John Kirwan has handed three-quarter Andrea Masi a starting berth in the RBS 6 Nations match with Scotland at Murrayfield.
Winger Nicola Mazzucato is relegated to the bench for Masi, the 21-year-old from L'Aquila, had made two substitute appearances earlier in the tournament.
He reinforces a backs division still deprived of Mauro Bergamasco who has now missed his country's last three matches.
Bergamascoâ??s last trip to Murrayfield had been a memorable one with his 2001 solo try in Edinburgh voted the try of that year's tournament.
However, his younger brother Mirco will be taking the full-back berth, a role he has begun to make his own with successive tries in the matches against England and France.
Ramiro Pez, as expected, continues at stand-off in place of Diego Dominguez.
