Godman believes Scotland call-up is just desserts

Fly-half Phil Godman admits a Scotland call-up as cover for the injured Ruaridh Jackson is just the tonic after his own year-long absence almost put a premature end to his international career.
Godman, who returned to domestic action in September after a knee injury, has impressed Scotland coach Andy Robinson and will be available for the opening two games of the RBS 6 Nations against England and Wales.

The 29-year-old scored a last-gasp drop goal in Edinburgh’s crucial 27-24 Heineken Cup victory over Racing Metro last Friday and will be looking to take full advantage of Jackson’s enforced layoff.

The Glasgow Warriors stand-off injured his thigh when kicking a first-half penalty in the 16-14 defeat to Scarlets a fortnight ago but Godman is just glad to be back playing.

"You always think about getting back into it for the club but also about playing for Scotland as well," said Godman, who has won 23 international caps.

"It's just great to be back playing for Edinburgh and to be back involved with Scotland."

Meanwhile, uncapped second row Fraser McKenzie is almost certainly out of the Six Nations after picking up a shoulder injury in Sale Sharks’ defeat to Brive on Thursday.

The former Edinburgh man was taken off after 57 minutes with a suspected dislocated shoulder.
