And with the Racing Metro encounter the final game before Wales kick off their Six Nations campaign against Ireland in Dublin, Roberts would appear to be struggling according to Blues coach Gareth Baber.

“There's a little break between our last European game and the Six Nations,” said Baber.

“But that will be up to the Union obviously when he joins up with them to see how he progresses.

“The knee injury has just plagued him a little bit longer than we thought.

“Unfortunately I don't think he's going to be able to win the race to get himself into a position to train this week and partake in the game on the weekend.”

One man’s loss could be another man’s gain however with Roberts’ Blues colleague Gavin Henson in line for a recall when Gatland names his squad tomorrow.

The versatile 29-year-old made his return to action in late December after a wrist injury and could slot into the inside centre jersey in Roberts’ absence.
