Fly-half Duncan Weir admits the call-up to Scotland's RBS 6 Nations squad caps a memorable rise to the top after injury threatened to prematurely end his career.
The previously uncapped 20-year-old was sidelined for the 2008/2009 season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury while at Cambuslang but recovered to make a summer move to Glasgow Hawks.

His clever kicking play then earned him a switch to the Warriors in 2010, and impressive performances subsequently for Scotland Under-20s forced Andy Robinson’s hand ahead of his 36-man squad announcement last week.

However despite a stunning start to the season, Weir admits the quality of Ruaridh Jackson and Dan Parks will be difficult to displace from the international berth at number ten.

Weir said: “I would love to get on and play, but there’s Ruaridh Jackson and Dan Parks in there, who are both experienced number tens, but if the chance comes, I would love to take it.”

“Everything has gone amazingly with the Scotland under-20s and then getting the professional contract with Glasgow, and having an alright first season despite having a bad injury throughout.

“But this season has been really good. It’s been good to get some more game time, and that’s helped me become more comfortable.

“The messages and texts I’ve had have been amazing. It gives you a real kick to know that there’s so many people wanting you to do well.

“People I’ve not spoken to since leaving school have been in touch, so it’s nice to see the hard work has been beneficial.

“We’ve got some training camps coming up so I’ll have to knuckle down, listen to what the coaches are saying, and try to do what they want.

“I’ll be listening to the coaches so I can nail it on the head and do what they want me to do.”
