Findlay names RBS 6 Nations squad ahead of England curtain-raiser

Scotland women's head coach Karen Findlay insists her young charges have learnt from the mistakes of last year's RBS 6 Nations and want to come out all guns blazing this time round.
Scotland, who finished bottom of the pile in 2011, were thrashed 89-0 by World Cup runners-up England at Twickenham last season – a result which still lingers in the memory for Findlay.

But after naming her 27-strong training squad, including previously uncapped second row Bridget Millar-Mills, former Scotland captain Findlay believes the experience of last year will stand them in good stead ahead of the rematch with the Auld Enemy on February 5.

And while the squad remains brimming with youth, the experience of No. 8 Susie Brown, scrum-half Louise Dalgliesh and lock Lindsay Wheeler will undoubtedly be called upon when the two clash at Lasswade RFC.

"England at home is a massive challenge,” said former Richmond coach Findlay.

“Last year we fielded an incredibly young, inexperienced team down at Twickenham. It'll be good to see the hard work we've done since then coming to fruition against the same opposition at Lasswade this year.

"I think there will be huge support for the England home game. The local community was fantastic in supporting our games at Lasswade last year - it's a superb pitch with great facilities.

"Stirling is a new location for us, for the France game. I think it's important that we do as good a job as we can to move the women's game around Scotland so that as many people as possible get the chance to see women's sport at this level."

Scotland squad:

Tracy Balmer (Worcester), Susie Brown (Richmond), Caroline Collie (OA Saints), Louise Dalgliesh (RHC Cougars), Beth Dickens (Murrayfield Wanderers), Sarah Dixon (Stirling County), Tess Forsberg (Richmond), Jemma Forsyth (Hillhead / Jordanhill), Katy Green (Murrayfield Wanderers), Tanya Griffith (RHC Cougars), Lauren Harris (Melrose), Steph Johnston (RHC Cougars), Mary Lafaiki (Cartha QP), Heather Lockhart (Hillhead / Jordanhill), Alison Macdonald (RHC Cougars), Lisa Martin (Murrayfield Wanderers), Suzanne McKerlie-Hex (Murrayfield Wanderers), Bridget Millar-Mills (Waterloo), Kath Muir (Richmond), Sarah Quick (Murrayfield Wanderers), Lisa Ritchie (Carlisle), Sarah Sexton (Murrayfield Wanderers), Ruth Slaven (Murrayfield Wanderers), Laura Steven (Murrayfield Wanderers), Anna Swan (RHC Cougars), Charlie Veale (London Wasps), Lindsay Wheeler (Richmond)
