Rougerie should have been cited, says McCaw

New Zealand captain Richie McCaw admits he's surprised France centre Aurelien Rougerie was not cited after breaking his silence about the alleged eye-gouging incident during the World Cup final.
Rougerie, who saw his French side go down 8-7 to the All Blacks in a repeat of the 1987 World Cup final, appeared to make contact with McCaw’s eye when New Zealand television showed slow-motion replays of the incident.

The International Rugby Board did not take action however, as the alleged incident came to light after the 36-hour period in which a citing must be made.

The IRB have since pledged to review that timeframe as a result of the incident, and McCaw pulled no punches in evaluating France’s behaviour.

"The French are worse when they are scared,” said McCaw.

“They were as bad as they have been and were going for the eyes. My eye was a bit sore for a while and I was struggling to see for a bit. I was surprised they didn't cite him.”
